SULEYMANIYE MOSQUE

DRAWING DETAILS

PREVIEW ENTIRE PROJECT

The Süleymaniye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. Süleymaniye Complex line drawings such as: the complex floor plan, the golden ratio projected in plan, sections and elevations were designed by Mimar Sinan. In collaboration with my classmates we created replicas of his drawings including sections and elevations to illustrate the circulation and construction of the space. This work in collaboration was to analyze and investigate the site with a close focus on Süleymaniye mosque. The connection with ottoman empire and their exclusive architecture style is reflected in the columns, domes, minarets and its thumb. There is a sense of  hierarchy illustrating  power in the magnificent imperial mosque.

Overall, the new drawings were created  from scratch by collecting drawings from books and sketches and other resources. Its unique style is a symbol of the power that represents the Ottoman empire at Suleymaniye mosque. Mimar Sinan "represents himself as the second Salomon and reference of the Dome of the Rock built on the Temple of Salomon ".
